Volunteers
Why should I volunteer?
Our organization needs you to help make it a success! TGH CHA is a non-proft with lofy goals to expand the program across Hamilton County and we rely heavily on volunteer resources to achieve our mission. The issue is urgent! Being connected to the Internet has become an essential extension to our families, our schools, and our places of employment. Digital textbooks and course work are quickly becoming the norm in our schools, and nearly 80% of all jobs are now posted exclusively online, leaving many unemployed members of the community without access.
What would I be doing as a volunteer?
In a nutshell, volunteers help participants (adults & student/parents pairs) understand how online resources and technology can improve their lives. This is done through in-person resource guidance over the course of the 15 hours of training. Classes cover topics such as tracking student’s grades and attendance online, securing a professional email, completing a job application, and finding web-based city services and other family resources.
We need three types of volunteers:
• Bilingual English/Spanish speakers who are fluent and feel comfortable explaining concepts and tools;
• Classroom volunteers who are comfortable helping others as they learn how their new devices and the Internet can improve their lives; and
• Childcare volunteers who can care for siblings onsite while students/parents attend the course. All that’s required to be a good volunteer is experience using the Internet and enthusiasm!
What is the time commitment?
We are asking volunteers to commit to either 8 hours or 15 hours of volunteering onsite at one of our many locations. Volunteers must commit between 2-3 hours per week over the course of 6 to 8 weeks (depending on the site’s schedule). Once we have your completed application, we will work to pair you with a site that fits your schedule and needs your skills.
Where would I be volunteering?
Volunteers will be assigned to work with an instructor at one of our many sites throughout Chattanooga and Hamilton County. TGH partners with schools, churches, community centers, and other non-profits.
What is the application process like?
1. Sign up at http://goo.gl/forms/VzAvlQaB8r to be a volunteer.
2. Speak with TGH CHA staff.
3. Be paired with a TGH CHA program site. That’s it, easy as 1-2-3!
