Camp K

Throughout Hamilton County this summer, 400 rising kindergartners across 15 schools will participate in Camp Kindergarten, a free K-readiness program.

During Camp K:
  • Students will learn foundational English and literacy skills and gain social-emotional skills that help prepare them to be successful in the classroom.
  • An experienced master teacher will teach the class of 15 students and a new teacher will assist them. Students from the education departments of UTC and Chattanooga State will also provide support as they complete required hours for their college work.
  • Parents of participating students will attend weekly engagement sessions hosted by community partners at the school where they can take home resources to be champions for their child’s education.

Camp K is making a difference! During the 2018 pilot program, out of 211 students enrolled, 87 students improved their kindergarten readiness score by 10 or more total points while 53 students were able to improve their score by 20 or more total points. Additionally, 50% of Camp K students scored “on target” on their kindergarten screening over the district average of 39%.

We are proud to partner with Hamilton County Schools and Chattanooga 2.0 to provide access to essential instruction for new kindergarten students and their parents.
